TISSNET

TISSNET is the mandatory entrance exam conducted every year for aspirants who seek admission to different campuses of Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The MA programmes run by Tata Institute of Social Sciences are some of the most highly sought after courses for lakhs of candidates who seek a fruitful career in management and social entrepreneurship. At present TISS runs 21 schools and 45 centres offering 53 tailored programmes which cover such specializations as Development Studies, Media Studies, and Management and Labor Studies across four campuses, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Tuljapur.

TISSNET is regarded by some industry experts an easy to moderate level test primarily oriented towards the GK section which is consequesntly the most challenging of all three sections on the exam. Admission to TISS is through TISSNET. Some of the programmes in Social Health may only have a descriptive paper. The coveted MA (HRM & LR) at TISS is deemed equivalent to an MBA in HR

Courses for MBA Aspirants as TISS

Courses at TISS are offered in multiple disciplines ranging from social sector to policy making. The Master’s Degree courses to which an MBA aspirant should focus on are MA in Human Resource Management and Labor Relations, MA in Social Entrepreneurship and MA in Globalization and Labor.

All TISSNET MBA 2019 applicants must double-check the eligibility criteria to ensure their application forms are accepted. An ideal applicant to the TISS has–

  • • Three year’s regular Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern or 15 years of formal education) across disciplines from any recognized college/university.

  • • Candidates studying in three and four-year degree programmes must have successfully cleared all subjects (semester 1 to semester 4 and semester 1 to semester 6 respectively ) at the time of filling the application form for TISSNET .

  • • Final year students of Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply. However, the result of the final examination needs must be submitted within the stipulated time for a candiadte’s to secure his/her admission. A candidate’s provisional admission may be revoked if the candidate’s degree certificate is not submitted on time and as per the guidelines prescribed by TISS.

  • • There is no mandated upper age limit for applying to TISSNET.

Important news-

TISSNET MBA 2019 – TISSNET 2019 was successfully conducted on January 13, 2019 and the final results were declared on February 11, 2019. To check and download their scores, the test takers can either click on the link given below or visit the official website and login with their registered email id and password.

TISSNET 2019 gives 40 marks (maximum) to General Awareness Section; 30 marks(maximum) to English Proficiency; and 30 marks to Maths and Logical Reasoning(combined).

TISSNET Salient features

Computer Based Test: This requires some practice as some first time aspirants find it difficult to transition to a computer based testing platform after having spent years working with paper based tests.

Easy to moderate difficulty level: TISS NET exam difficulty varies from Easy to moderate. The preparation undertaken by those who plan to take the CAT and other management entrances is sufficient to crack TISSNET.

6 Areas of preparation: The TISSNET exam consists of English, Analytical & Logical Reasoning along with General Knowledge & Knowledge of Contemporary Issues. Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their TISSNET score. The shortlisted candidates then are called for a round of Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview (PIT/PI) leading to final selection.

GK is the differentiator: With English, Quant and LR/DI being of easy to moderate difficulty, TISS NET places major thrust on GK by allotting it highest weightage of 40 marks. The purview of GK is vast. In order to score well in TISS NET one needs to master the GK section.

No Negative Marking: TISSNET does not have negative marking for any programme. This allows its aspirants to take a few calculated risks to maximize their scores. Unanswered questions are not scored.

The syllabus of TISSNET consists of questions related to General Awareness, Logical Reasoning, Maths and English Proficiency. The important topics that comprise the of TISS-NET syllabus are –

  • • General Awareness: Sociology, Geography, History, Personalities, Current Affairs, Politics etc.

  • • English Language Ability: Reading Comprehension (RCs), Vocabulary, Analogies, Grammar, etc.

  • • Maths & Logical Reasoning: Basic Geometry, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Averages, Family Tree etc. Every year TISS, Mumbai, launches a DEMO test link for aspirants to give them a taste of the actual test. The Demo Test link for TISS NET MBA 2019 was activated on January 6, 2019. Prospective test takers are advised to take the simulated test in order to familiarize themselves with both the actual test and its navigation patterns.

After qualifying the TISSNET MBA 2019, each short-listed candidate must appear for a PIT/PI rounds. A candidate’s acceptance to TISS is dependent on his/her collective scores of TISSNET, PIT and PI marks. Each stage of the selection procedure carries different weight.

TISSNET Detailed Syllabus Overview- 2019

Mathematics & Logical Reasoning This section had a total of 30 questions; 17 from Quant, 7 from DI and 6 from Reasoning. Majority of the questions were either easy or easy to moderate. DI sets were considered time taking by some test takers.

English Proficiency

This section had 30 MCQs in total. There were a few vocabulary based questions. However, the aspirants were not tested on one word substitutions, analogy and idiomatic usage this year. The grammar based questions were undemanding.
